We became involved in this little school in 2004, when I was approached by an ex Malawian/St Andrews High School friend in Australia who wanted a project in Malawi to help young girls education.
As you can see from the attached photos, when we first started the school was built with pole and dagga and is now as you can see from the pictures, changed completely, to decent brick and mortar building with Class rooms, Headmaster and Staff rooms.( In the middle of building a small kitchen to feed the young kids porridge first thing in the morning)
Our main sponsor to date has been Rotary, Melbourne and Deakin University, who at the moment are sponsoring 20 pupils, mostly girls, through their senior school.
Our intention is to eventually move most of the school out of the village, to get most of the pupils out of the village, away from all the interference, noises etc of the local community.
2 years ago we managed to secure/purchase a plot of land, (4 hectares) on a hill directly behind Senga Bay, which overlooks the Lake and is well away from the actual village.
Our aim is to eventually move most of the senior classes up the hill, leaving the lower standards where they are now. (close to their family homes) At the moment the school has in excess of 600 students, far to many for our facility with hundreds more queuing up to get in.
Due to the bad name Malawi has got with Donors, the last few years has made it virtually impossible to raise funds externally so we are looking for local sponsors/donors to help us with our intended project, even join up with another NGO if need be? At the moment all we have on the plot is a half built headmasters house .
Our other project is to sponsor any student from All Angels that gets a good pass and is allocated a place in a Senior School, this covers their fees, uniforms, pocket money, transport etc.
At the moment we have 20 students, 13 girls and 7 boys that are receiving this benefit.
