Cape Maclear, Malawi, 15th February 2016
First I will introduce myself. My name is Anke van den Broek. I graduated as a teacher in The Netherlands with certification in primary education. I am currently working as a primary teacher in Cape Maclear and I also volunteer for a local charity. I am having an enjoyable time with this new experiences that is the primary reason for this application as I would like to stay longer.
Whilst studying for my third year in primary education in Holland I minored in two subjects; first one was in innovative educational methods e.g. the Montessori system. The second minor was in international education which I utilised whilst volunteering in Surinam. During my time in Surinam I interned at a foundation which promoted child literacy and assisted in organizing the children's educational festivals. In addition I had an internship at a primary school (ages ranging 4 – 7). I had an enjoyable and informative time in Suriname and I learned how to teach with limited resources. I eventually earned my certification in the internationally accredited Dalton system of Education.
My graduation project was about collaborative and cooperative learning. I have worked a lot with ICT and gained a lot of skills in this area. In geographical areas with limited educational resource I try to remain creative and design my lessons to cater to the interests and the different intellectual levels of the primary students. During my last internship I had full responsibility for my own class (Group 4, age 7 to 8) for three days a week.
My current job in Cape Maclear consists of teaching private lessons to primary aged students in a variety of subjects. I learned about the Malawian culture and I have more experience now to teach children with different educational levels at the same time. In addition my volunteer work in Cape Maclear consists of teaching primary aged children in Chembe Child care and Tipezananso in basic literacy and mathematical skills.
I consider myself to be hard working, creative, flexible, and a team player. I feel my involvement with educational projects in Malawi has enabled me to gain adequate experience now to teach primary students in English in a range of subjects. I hope you can consider me for this opportunity at the end of August as I believe my international and local knowledge would be of value in your school. In the attach are my CV and some things I made to show my creativity (a game I made myself, a box for a project against bullying and some walldecoration I made for the project in Surinam). If you require additional references or if you require further information please don’t hesitate to ask.
