Organic Gardening Vacancies in an Exciting New Venture

Good day, everyone! A young and dedicated social enterprise is looking for two warm-hearted, honest, loyal, fun and straight forward new team members for our upcoming venture: a beautiful ecological and sustainability training centre with lodging, conferencing and vegetarian restaurant facilities in Chigumula. Our target is to provide our valued visitors and clients with sustainable, creative, cosy hospitality at international standards and close to nature. Our slogan is "Experience, Connect & Enjoy". Our vision is, apart from being a place to eat, meet, work, and relax, to become a hotspot of joyful common learning, innovation, and for those who care, some awareness about the environmental and sustainability limitations of the beautiful creation, earth, which we've been given to take care of and which is now crying foul over our devastating human impact which seems to know no tomorrow and no limits. We are planning to hire quite a number of people for different positions, especially in the hospitality sector, over the next 6-8 months (so please watch this space if you are or know someone who may be interested and fit to us:) For now, we are in the preparation phase to develop the premises and need support in the following areas: 1) Organic Garden and Farm Planner & Supervisor - Starting Date: ASAP. Is out there someone innovative, creative, "flowery", with a green thumb and a demonstrated heart-felt passion for preserving nature, with a natural suspicion against artificial chemicals incl. pesticides and fertilizers and wd rather replace them with natural means; who either already has or would love nothing more than to: learn everything about or broaden knowledge on organic gardening and permaculture principles; engage in looking up lots of ways to support a natural habitat; help us plan, ladscape, develop and nurture our huge edible gardens; ensure that things grow on a continuous basis; pro-actively and meticulously check plants all around the gardens and compounds on a day-to-day basis to discover pests or other maintenance needs and initiate timely action; experiment with self-grown teas, herbs and vegetables and support the restaurant kitchen and lounge for their exciting culinary creations; and guide the other gardening staff on their actions, including sharing their knowledge and training others; potentially later on help us train the surrounding community and other groups? Very good command of English and attention to detail are essential, an educational or vocational or working background in gardening/permaculture/biology/agriculture would be ideal but not a must in case of proven interest and experience; good Internet research skills an asset, high customer and service orientation a necessity. We believe a compound can only be as lively as its caretakers :) Ladies are especially encouraged to apply for the above! 2) Assistant Gardener - Starting Date: ASAP. Looking for an experienced gardener with an eye for what's needed to do, a good memory to implement agreed tasks in the agreed time, a friendly and helpful attitude, someone who enjoys creating and making things beautiful and a ense for order, with previous experience having taken care of big gardens and ideally with excellent trustworthy references. This team member will initially get involved in establishing the nursery, all the beds and garden landscapes (according to organic farming/permaculture principles) with guidance from the Supervisor, and later help us maintain the general beauty of the premises at all times by taking all necessary means to replant, remove unwanted weeds and pests, prepare new planting areas, cut hedges and outgrown plants, keep recreation areas tidy and clean, etc. Also part of the resposnibilities will be to maintain planting books, ensure proper signage of displays and numbering new seedlings etc., hence a reasonable command of English both written and spoken is essential. Please note that some of this will be physically demanding work so applicants for this post should be physically fit and like to have mixed open-sky assignements (of course some in the greenhouse, too:). If you are or know someone interested in this area to apply for one of these vacancies, please write to us. We are looking forward to your cover letter indicating why you think you are the right match for us, a CV with a summary of all your RELEVANT educational background and practical experience (max 3 pages) and three valid references with email and phone number to team@ecolodgy.org by 1st September, 2016. If we have not found the ideal candidates by then, we will invite applicants on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Our premises are reachable by public transport on the Thyolo Road, direction Bvumbwe. Best regards and a good day to all, the ecoLODGy team
